Recent Reviews

The Power of Prayer Around the World
Glen Mosley and Joanna Hill

“The Power of Prayer Around the World is a beautifully produced small-format hardcover that examines the similarities in motivation across religious lines that characterizes the use of prayer. Reading this book, one gets the impression that the tradition you come from matters less than the ache of your longing and the sincerity of your need.”

Writing from the Heart: Young People Sharing Their Wisdom

Peggy Veljkovic and Arthur Schwartz

“These 62 award-winning essays were selected as the best of the 60,000 entries submitted by young people from all over the world through the Laws of Life program since its inception in 1987. Most of the selections relate to a story of how an encounter with someone less fortunate, someone with remarkably inspiring character traits, or someone who loved them unconditionally helped the young writers to determine their goals and personalities. The entrants range from age 9 to 20.”

The Cosmic Dance: Science Discovers the Mysterious Harmony of the Universe

Giuseppe Del Re

“Del Re’s thoughtful and well-written book seeks a spiritual undercurrent in the scientific findings of the past century. Its primary theme is the interconnectedness in the universe, the major refrain of postmodern science that sees unity behind diversity, in brute phenomena as well as in the web of life. In a remarkable survey and synthesis of physics and philosophy, chemistry and causality, and incorporating meaning and ethics, Del Re (Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris) presents an eminently interesting view of science and its results, suggesting that humanity could well be the bridge between matter and spirit. Highly recommended. All levels.”

The Mind of the Universe: Understanding Science and Religion

Mariano Artigas

“Is there a Mind behind the amazing and puzzling fact that life occurred? At a more mundane level, what kind of human mind is necessary to know this fact? What are the ontological and epistemological conditions required to understand how the world is made and to ask about our place in it? This brilliant book is an attempt to answer these questions. It begins with a scholarly, comprehensive and critical survey of what philosophy of science has to say about the presuppositions and implications of science. It then goes on to show that the structure of scientific explanation, the ethical dimensions of research, and the meaning of progress cannot be divorced from the larger questions about the teleological character of the universe and, hence, a plan that included the marvelous fact that certain physical laws seem designed to make life possible.”
