Investor Politics Released

In Investor Politics: The New Force That Will Transform American Business, Government & Politics in the Twenty-First Century, John Hood presents Jeffersonian-based strategies that will help Americans build and control their own assets, using the tools of personal investing and compound interest to help families afford the “big-ticket” expenses of life—health care, education, unemployment, and retirement.

Investor Politics encourages people to become owners rather than just users of capital assets. Drawing on the wealth-broadening economic principles of Jefferson, the Southern Agrarians, and even Marx, Investor Politics offers strategies for replacing government entitlement programs with a system that exempts savings and investment from taxation. There are many opportunities for reform—those that will work require thinking strategically about the long-term and tactically about the short term. Hood presents the following:

Investor Politics:

The New Force That Will Transform American Business, Government & Politics in the Twenty-First Century

John Hood

In the post-Reagan era, conservatives have aggressively pursued two major economic-policy objectives: lower marginal tax rates and the privatization of Social Security.… As John Hood makes abundantly clear in his insightful new book, the consequences of the Social Security debate are immense. Indeed, its outcome will profoundly shape the political history of the 21st century.… While it is definitely not good beach reading, Investor Politics is chock-full of interesting historical anecdotes, clever policy analysis, and surprising musings. I highly recommend it to any reader interested in understanding how our government turned into an entitlement trough, and how much it might change if Republicans are able to win just one more battle.

The Hand of God
Thoughts and Images Reflecting the Spirit of the Universe
Edited by Michael Reagan

Introduction by Sharon Begley

The book is a welcome alternative to the “me-centered” focus of so many spiritual and religious books today. Readers see a star formed 13 million light-years from Earth and can gasp in wonder at a fireworks display better than anything offered up at the Fourth of July. And they will be astonished at the color, clarity and exquisite form of the ringed planet of Saturn as depicted in an infrared view.… In keeping with the Templeton Foundation’s determination to show the commonalities present in the ongoing dialogue between science and religion, the book also records the intense reflection such images provoke in the minds of hard scientists.

The Mind of the Universe:

Understanding Science and Religion

Mariano Artigas

Written by the professor of natural science and dean of Ecclesiastical Faculty at the University of Navarra (Pamplona, Spain), Mariano Artigas’ The Mind of the Universe: Understanding Science and Religion is a unique volume that dares to question the widespread assumption that science and religion are utterly irreconcilable.… Highly recommended for students of science/religion reconciliation issues, The Mind of the Universe is an erudite, literate, informed presentation on matters both physical and spiritual.
