Riches for the Mind and Spirit: John Marks Templeton’s Treasury of Words to Help, Inspire, and Live By has been released as a new paperback edition. In this anthology of Bible verses, poems, and prose, Sir John shares his personal collection of treasured words of wisdom.
Sir John has spent the greater part of his life encouraging people to seek a greater understanding of God, spirituality, the universe, and the laws of life. Organized by topic—including faith, love, happiness, positive thinking, progress, humility, and forgiveness—Riches for the Mind and Spirit is a valuable resource for all who seek spiritual growth. The collection contains passages from many perspectives and faith traditions. Included are several of Sir John’s personal anecdotes and philosophies.
"From the Bible, from philosophers and poets, and from other writers, we begin to form a clear understanding of the spiritual and ethical laws of life. The world’s literature teaches us valuable lessons that no amount of money can buy. Those lessons are there for everyone. They are free and they are priceless." —John Marks Templeton

Science and Religion: A Critical Survey by Holmes Rolston III was first published in 1987. A paperback edition is now available with an extensive new introduction that covers current scientific research.
Rolston examines the relationships between science and religion in the areas of method, matter, life, mind, culture, and history by incorporating religious and scientific worldviews. “Science is the first fact of modern life, and religion is the perennial carrier of meaning,” he notes. He begins with an examination of two natural sciences: physics and biology, and then extrapolates examples from two human sciences: psychology and sociology. Next, he moves to the storied universe and world history, raising and addressing religious questions. Throughout, he explores the implications for religious beliefs of such diverse theories as relativity and quantum mechanics, Darwinian evolution, natural selection, behaviorism, and Freudian psychoanalysis, documenting his study with extensive references.

Science and Creation: The Search for Understanding is the second book in a trilogy written by internationally renowned priest-scientist, John C. Polkinghorne. He addresses fundamental questions about creation through an examination of the similarities and differences between scientific and theological viewpoints on natural theology, the big bang, the design argument, and the work of Christ. Originally published in 1988 and out of print for many years, this is the second volume of a trilogy that includes Science and Providence, which was republished by Templeton Foundation Press in 2005. The third volume of the trilogy, One World, will be reissued in 2007 by Templeton Foundation Press.
Dr. Polkinghorne illustrates how a scientifically minded person approaches the task of theological inquiry, postulating that there exists a close analogy between scientific theory and experiment and theological belief and understanding. Through an exploration of the history of natural theology, he offers a fresh perspective on such questions as:
• Are we witnessing today a
revival of natural theology—the search for God through the exercise of reason
and the study of nature?
• How do the insights of modern physics into the interlacing of order and
disorder relate to the Christian doctrine of creation?
• What is the relationship between mind and matter?
A modern conception of the world is offered, in which chance and necessity and symmetry and its spontaneous breakdown interlace with each other. Polkinghorne argues that “the lawful necessity of the universe is to be understood as a reflection of God’s faithfulness, whilst the role of chance in the world’s process is a reflection of the precariousness inescapable in the gift of freedom by love.” His study rejects a materialist reductionism, and proposes a complementary metaphysics of mind/matter.

Recently released is a book that looks into the writing and thinking of G. K. Chesterton. Chesterton (1874-1936), essayist, poet, novelist, political campaigner, and theologian, is considered by many to be one of the greatest writers and thinkers of the twentieth century. He “worked to remind us of the oddity, the wonder, of the world we live in, by pointing out and exaggerating too-familiar features of that world.”
In G. K. Chesterton: Thinking Backward, Looking Forward, author Stephen R. L. Clark explores the scholar’s ideas and arguments in their historical context and evaluates them philosophically. He addresses Chesterton’s sense that the way things are is not how they must have been or need be in the future and his willingness to face up to the apparent effects of the nihilism he detected in much contemporary science and politics.
Stephen R. L. Clark is professor of philosophy and Leverhulme Research Fellow at
the University of Liverpool, England. He received his D. Phil. from

Antje Jackelén
“What [Jackelén] has shown convincingly is that ‘scientific theories and theological models do not exist in isolation from each other.’. . . Anyone who wants to be familiar with the vast history of contributions to the subject, primarily from philosophical and theological sources, will want to examine this book carefully.”

Chaos and Harmony
Trinh Xuan Thuan
“Chaos and Harmony brilliantly explains in an elaborate format the intricacies and answers to many sought questions and misunderstandings, and is to be given high praise. Strong[ly] recommended for students of astrophysics, astronomy, as well as readers with an interest in the theological or philosophical perspectives which the sciences may substantially counter and/or support. ”

“Chaos and Harmony describes the strange yet beautiful theories of the very small and the very large. Thuan delights in raising philosophical and religious questions stemming from discoveries in science and addresses issues of design and purpose as a secondary theme of the book. Consequently this could be a useful text for introductory science courses or for nonbelievers interested in contemplating the marvels of modern science as evidence for God’s delicate fingerprints in creation. Thuan’s writing will appeal to Christians in the sciences and humanities alike, as a resource for presenting topics of modern physics and cosmology, and as a source of inspiration in contemplating creation’s complexity and design.

Spiritual Information
Edited by Charles L. Harper Jr.
“There are various themes throughout the book; some will enthrall, some will cause one to pause and reflect, others will niggle at one’s mind to open to ‘new’ thought. It’s all good. When I started sampling through this book, one thought kept returning to mind. What a tremendous ‘text’ this would be for a study group! 100 essays—100 weeks of discussion in a study group.
This book will be a much used reference in your spiritual studies. I recommend it highly.”
—Spirit-Works, May 2006
“Spiritual Information: 100 Perspectives on Science and Religion, edited by Charles L. Harper Jr., conveys the excitement of discovery, the challenge of debate, the diversity of thinking, and the excellence of multidisciplinary research.”
