Gary Moore is an interesting character in the world of Christian finance. Contrary to many self-proclaimed experts, he has decades of experience as a fund manager. In the 1980s he wrote a book that Christianity Today called "the first book of ethical investing."
Moore uses biblical examples to illustrate his position. A book worth reading. Especially for those who have a little money left to invest!

Gary Moore, a former senior vicepresident of investments at Paine Webber, founded his own investment firm, which counsels "ethical and spiritual investors." He begins with chapters on money as religion, false prophets, the gospels, and the epistles as he develops the ethics of the Jewish scriptures and the spirit of the Christian scriptures. Finally he presents his vision for the third millennium.

In a series of mini-essays, Moore explores Old and New Testament verses that speak to finances, and he frequently points out biblical paradoxes. For example, in Proverbs 10:4 we are told, "Being lazy will make you poor, but hard work will make you rich," whereas Proverbs 10:22 notes, "It is the Lord’s blessing that makes you wealthy. Hard work can make you no richer."

,em>Faithful Finances 101, sprinkled throughout with selective scriptures, is very much full of Moore’s own spirituality and personal experience. The insights he gained as a former vice president of investment at Paine Webber, a financial advisor and a theology student—as well as insights from those he respects, including Templeton—shine a light on the financial teachings of the Bible.

Faithful Finances 101 is a fine entry into the ongoing fray over financial attitudes of a Christian people in an affluent country, and offers a balanced, well-reasoned and scriptural worldview as one possible solution. If you are trying to sort out your perceptions about money in this land of opportunity, in the light of scripture, this book is a "must read."
